Fireplaces, whatever form they arrived, were used in all cultures for more than 1 million years. Wells dug by the first fire men the caves were simply holes in the ground or into caves strategically placed to provide heat and cooking raw meat. Later, when huts were used housing and accommodation, it was understood that the smoke had to be evacuated, which is possible, with thatched roofs, like the smoke could rise and escape through small holes, but Indian teepees, for example, had opened its peaks to help eliminate smoke, if you do not want to risk of choking.
Several thousand years afternoon with the arrival of two three storey buildings, fires need for a system to expel the smoke from the room, who has set in. The invention of fire has a solution to this problem by allowing the smoke rising up through course of conduct that led to the roof.
In 1678, the Prince Ruppert had the idea to erect the steel structure used to hold burning fuel. This allows more air to circulate through and around the fire, which means that the hot gases have more time to travel before being burned, producing more heat. This was still quite impressive discovery in physics fire.
The 1740s saw Benjamin Franklin stove produce innovative and unique. Although based on the design Ruppert stove had some advanced features that allow the hot gases travel around it, heating and indoor air. A vent at the top rank allowed hot air to escape into space to innovate and thereby providing convection and radiant heat.
In 1700, Count Rumford designed the first house to the homes of large and shallow, providing a much better smoke extraction. Rumford design was one that should be replicated many times, and is considered the basis of the modern fireplace.
Rumsford design has been used by many (and still is) in the lobby of the industry. Then flourished in many allowing different styles of fireplaces to emerge over time.
